We at FitzGerald Solicitors would like to congratulate our managing partner, Philip O’Leary, on his appointment by the Minister for Justice, Frances FitzGerald, as non-executive Chair of the Legal Aid Board.

It is a great honour for the firm to have one of its partners appointed to such a prestigious role.  As an organisation, the Legal Aid Board has 50 offices throughout the country and a staff of over 450.

The Board currently has a budget of €40 million, which is expected to increase to €100 million within the next year when the Board takes responsibility for the statutory criminal legal aid scheme.

Philip was a member of the Legal Aid Board from 2011 to 2016 and chaired the Board’s Audit and Risk Committee.

The Legal Aid Board will undoubtedly benefit from the significant commercial experience that Philip has built up in his capacity as advisor to many of the country’s main lending institutions over the past 30 years.  Philip’s sound judgement, strategic thinking and pragmatism will be invaluable in his capacity as Chair of this important Board.

We wish Philip and the Board every success over the next five years.
