When deciding to bring civil court proceedings one of the matters to be considered is the court in which the case should be heard. In determining which court is appropriate the monetary jurisdiction of the courts is relevant.

It is therefore important to note that changes are to be made to the monetary jurisdictions of the civil courts with effect from the 3rd February, 2014 pursuant to Section 2(1) and Part 3 of the Courts and Civil Law (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2013.

The monetary jurisdictions of the civil courts will be as follows from the 3rd February 2014:

- District Court: €15,000.

- Circuit Court in civil proceedings (other than personal injury claims): €75,000.

- Circuit Court for personal injury actions as defined in Section 2 of the Civil Liability and Courts Act 2004: €60,000.
